Dr. Alissa Koloff

About Me

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in New York and Michigan. I have over 11 years of experience providing mental health services across various outpatient and inpatient settings. I am experienced in working with LGBTQ+ populations, and treating issues related to anxiety and depression, identity exploration, family rejection, relationship dissatisfaction, trauma, major life transitions and work/life balance. I have a passion for supporting individuals and couples of all genders and sexualities on their fertility and family building journeys.

Therapy Style

With both couples and individuals, I work from a psychodynamic and attachment based perspective, and use the trusting relationship we build together to facilitate change.  I help you tap into your own inner sources of guidance, wisdom and resilience as you develop new perspectives and coping strategies to approach stressors. I provide identity-affirming therapy, and hold space for people of all identities, genders and abilities to self-explore, heal and thrive as their full, authentic selves.  My style in the room is direct, empathic, collaborative, and playful.

Education
and Training

I graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in Honors Psychology, and received my doctorate from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology.  I completed my APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at North Central Bronx Hospital, where I went on to become a staff psychologist and co-director of the Externship Training Program. In addition to my private practice, I was previously employed at Octave Behavioral Health in NYC. I completed the Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program at William Alanson White Institute, and specialized training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples from The International Center for Excellence (Core Skills Advanced Training Program and Externship Program). I am a life-long learner, and I continue to refine my skills and advance my knowledge through post-graduate education and trainings.
